Report of Postdoctoral Scholars Association (PSA) Activities-2020/2021

Dr. Qian is currently a postdoctoral scholar in the 3 Revolutions Future Mobility Program at the Institute of Transportation Studies (ITS) at UC Davis. He received a bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from Tsinghua University, Beijing, China in 2014 and his PhD degree in Transportation Engineering from UC Davis in 2019.

Can you describe the importance of your area of professional focus? 

Dr. Gina M. Sideli is a postdoctoral scholar with the almond breeding program at the department of plant sciences, UC Davis since 2019. She obtained her PhD in Horticulture and Agronomy with the walnut breeding program at UC Davis, and was originally attracted to UC Davis due to the various crops being studied, including fruits and nuts.

Postdoctoral Scholars Association (PSA) is delighted to announce the nominees and winners of the 2021 UC Davis Award for Excellence in Postdoctoral Research. The award for excellence in postdoctoral research is offered to recognize the vital role that postdoctoral scholars play in maintaining the reputation of excellent research at the University of California, Davis.

List of nominees for the 2021 UC Davis Award for Excellence in Postdoctoral Research:

Dr. Sherri Biendarra-Tiegs is a second-year postdoctoral scholar working in the lab of Dr. Steve George within the Biomedical Engineering Department. She completed her PhD in Biomedical Sciences- Molecular Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics at the Mayo Clinic Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences in 2019.

What has been your professional journey that led you to a postdoc at UC Davis?

Dr. Essam Abdelfattah is a postdoctoral scholar at the Veterinary Medicine Teaching and Research Center (VMTRC), School of Veterinary Medicine, University of California. He holds master's and Ph.D. degrees in Animal Behavior and Management, as well as a Bachelor of Veterinary Medical Sciences. His research focuses on improving the health and welfare of animals.

Since when have you been with UC Davis and what are the progress so far?

Dr. Amber M. Davis is a postdoctoral scholar at the UC Davis MIND Institute/Psychiatry department. She is a graduate of Howard University’s Ph.D. Social Work program and started her postdoctoral position at UC Davis in 2019. 

What is your area of professional focus and how important is it? 

Dr. Jelle Hellings is a third-year postdoc working in the Exploratory Systems Lab of Prof. Sadoghi, Department of Computer Science. In this spotlight, he shares a bit about his research, background, future plans, and personal life.
